NAME: Sarah TIMEZONE: US/ Eastern [GMT-5] BIRTHDAY: July 14th MESSENGER: conjureoncommand EMAIL ADDRESS. lanternsdance@gmail.com CDJ: |
Basics |
NAME: Regulus Arcturus Black AGE/BIRTHDAY: June 2nd, 1961. BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood FORMER HOUSE: Slytherin 1979 OCCUPATION: Before defecting from service from Voldemort, Regulus was interning at a respectable wand shop just shy of Knockturn Alley. This lasted exactly six months. Regulus highly enjoyed the work but does not feel that it is likely he will ever be able to return to it. |
Relationships |
FAMILY: Any family of importance who may or may not be making an appearance in-game. Other mentions of importance should be included under history. Orion Black. Father. Walburga Black. Mother. Sirius Black III. Estranged brother. Bellatrix Lestrange. Cousin. Bellatrix Lestrange has remarked upon her desire to use Regulus in a Pure Blood Breeding Program. After Regulus' betrayal and harassment it is unlikely this relationship can ever be repaired. Andromeda Tonks. Cousin. Formerly Estranged. Andromeda and Regulus have recently reconnected and have found they share similar hobbies such as cleaning. Nymphadora Tonks. Second Cousin. Formerly Estranged. Regulus is very fond of Dora and not just because they are mutually fond of crayons. Narcissa Malfoy. Cousin. Currently Estranged. Despite their current silence, Regulus is still very fond of her and worries about her safety. Regulus was formerly supposed to be Draco's godfather. Mars Mulciber. Regulus' nonbrother. While Regulus did not grow up close to Sirius, he found a surrogate in Mars. That relationship has continued now that Mars has joined up with the traveling Death Eaters. SEXUALITY: Heterosexual--he is pretty sure. Regulus has not taken a large interest in relationships for a combination of reasons (likely early death, very awkward adolescences, and the fact that he was expecting an arranged marriage). In conflict with his presumed heterosexuality he occasionally hits on male members of the Order. SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None CHILDREN:: None, although he has been offered a choice spot in Bellatrix's future Pure Blood Breeding Program. |
Politics |
LOYALTY/ALLIANCE: Death Eater deserter and Traitor. Currently Order of the Phoenix. ROLE IN THE WAR: Regulus, initially, was a general lacky for Voldemort. He did what was requested of him regardless of any unease for a variety of reasons stemming from loyalty and fear of consequences. He even did above and beyond necessary on occasion but that was mostly to detract attention from someone else he felt personally invested in. After the McKinnon, and his first trip to Romania, Regulus decided to leave the Death Eaters. It was only after great consideration of his options that he decided to sell his information to the Order in hopes of gaining safety until the conflict ended. He also came with some basic wand mending/lore knowledge from working in a wand shop for six months prior to the betrayal. More recently, Regulus’ role in the Order has been a go-to guy for anything involving Death Eaters. As he grew up with many of the younger generation, he knows them quite well. He also continues to converse with friends and family which occasionally makes him privy to information he shouldn’t be. He does not always share this information. POLITICAL VIEWS: As a former Death eater and Pure Blood advocate, Regulus does still ascribe to feelings of superiority and preference towards pure bloods. However, it was his focus on family and tradition that initially pulled him towards the Death Eaters (it also helped that it was what all his friends were doing). Having now traveled with the Order and become more worldly—Regulus is less focused on blood, but still heavily focused on the concept of family as an important base for the beliefs that he wishes to uphold. He is still a little freaked out by full on muggles, however. While he can easily go into their stores (wearing awful clothing) he doesn’t particularly like them touching him and he’s not comfortable conversing with them. If able, he will avoid direct skin to skin contact with Muggles. |
Appearance |
APPEARANCE:Regulus Black, prior to leaving the Death Eaters and being disowned, was a very well groomed, well dressed, pureblooded young man. His cousin Narcissa did most of his shopping and his impeccable grooming techniques paid off so that he was clean and presentable—even if he did fidget, compulsively adjust table placemats, and occasionally create salt designs to starve off a sort of nervous panic that has always been with him. Where Sirius always seemed self-assured and charismatic, Regulus has always felt and almost always exuded nerves. He was a boy that was never fully comfortable in his own skin, even if he was always comfortable in Pureblood society, and he has always been far more likely to fade back in the light of his older brother. This has changed somewhat since he left the Death Eaters. Strangely, joining the Order has allowed Regulus to express a little more humor, color, and a little less decorum--the former of which he has always had but almost always suppressed. Regulus is still highly likely to express his nervous ticks, particularly during stressful situations, but he has learned slowly that relaxing and being a little silly will not reflect badly on him the way it would have with the Death Eaters. Expressing his fear more obviously, also, has not caused anyone to think him less able. It’s through that, as well as losing everything in a shipwreck, that has gotten Regulus to wear rather flamboyant 1970’s fashion from cheap surplus stores and the Salvation Army stores. Unlike his brother, Regulus was not left any money from his Uncle and so when his trunk washed away so did most of the money he had access to as well as his impeccable robes. He has not been able to access his accounts since he was disowned and had not extracted his accounts from his parents before betraying Voldemort as he did not want to make anyone suspicious. In addition to that, while he is still far from charismatic—Regulus is very able and willing to put on a show or regulate what information he releases. His tells are the same as his nervous ticks and if he does them compulsively every day it’s unlikely to be noticed as anything unusual. Lying to someone’s face or deflecting an uncomfortable question is at least borderline subtle and a day to day activity. |
Personality |
| WAND: Fourteen inches of aspen with a core of dragon heart string. He also carries around practice wands when he gets in the mood to practice what he did at his former internship. BOGGART: Regulus has a general fear of death, though perhaps not in the most general way. He's afraid of people who are dead coming back alive—inferi and zombies but more specifically from those he killed or helped murder. It’s mostly the putrid smell and the rotting flesh that gets him outside of the general fear of seeing a set of cloudy eyes he thinks he might remember. PATRONUS: Regulus has been unable to call a patronus successfully. Before his betrayal he practiced by thinking about how proud and excited he was to become death eater as it represented a moment where he felt that he was joining something bigger than himself and something that would give him a purpose. However, when those initial feelings waned he had trouble finding a specific memory. From the waning moment until just recently he used the first time he successfully made a useable wand by himself (it later exploded but having a completed wand of his own was a heady feeling) to practice. More recently that has been replaced with Frank telling him they were friends. Although he knows very well that that sort of sentiment can change quickly, having some sort of support voiced within his new organization is the most happy memory he has had recently. If he were to be successful in summoning a patronus it would be a magpie. The magpie symbolizes people’s tendencies to chase after false ideas, to revile brilliance, and elusiveness. It can also be considered a symbol of prophecy and death but Regulus would prefer to look at the lighter side of things--at least in public. LIKES: Wood work--particularly intricate carving, finding wand materials, charms, tradition, order(everything has a place and everything in its place), DISLIKES:Running for his life, disorder, desperation, lack of decorum, and most specifically not knowing his place in a social situation. STRENGTHS: Mood Charms, carving(by hand--but no one is ever to know that), subversion(how else do you expect him to not die before sharing his information?), Trolling, conversing with family members he should not be doing so, not dying, remembering traditions and decorum, and family loyalty. WEAKNESSES: Staying still, surprising nervous quirks, being charming on purpose, cannot cook—not even to make a cup of tea(even tea catches something on fire), keeping his mouth shut/his doodles to himself, not attempting to reconnect with family that would rather him dead, and being earnestly cheerful. KNOWN INFORMATION: Regulus Black is a known terrorist. There is no questioning the fact that he has been in at least one terrorist organization. What is lesser known is that he’s been involved with two. Members of the Order and the Death Eaters, however, are very aware of that fact and some Ministry of Magic are as well (although there seems to be some paperwork issue). Many may also know some, but likely not all, of the details that caused Regulus Black to change teams. It is also very well known that Regulus Black has been disowned from his family and left his Wand Making internship. More recently, Regulus Black is also a known troublemaker on journals. He is sarcastic and obnoxious and is perfectly willing to doodle and/or comment on any unwarded entry that suits his fancy. It is also known in the Death Eaters and the Order that he continues to talk to many old friends and family that he should be estrange from. DETAILED PERSONALITY: Regulus Black is not a victim. He is not a victim of chance, or of situation. Each atrocity, each situation—he chose and created for himself. Yes, it is true there were other aspects at play—a nervous and malleable disposition as a child, friends in dark places, and a family that fully supported his erroneous decisions—but he s not a victim. Those who knew him as a child may not recognize him at his current standing but that is not to say there aren’t similarities. Regulus Black has always been nervous and he has always fallen back on the same coping methods. Cleaning. Organizing his books or wands. Artwork, if his hand is steady enough. Arranging table settings to stave off the jingle of nerves before a meal. Drawing designs with his middle finger in salt on the place-mat if what is being discussed is completely uncomfortable or threatening. His ticks and tendencies can be hidden well—he hides the place-mat adjustments by doing them while he eats or talks. He will put salt on a napkin in his lap if he cannot do anything on the table. Counting the tines on forks or watching others if utmost stillness is required. Most would think that these tendencies would result in a less than ideal companion on dangerous missions. The need to panic, which has become more vibrant during his time in the Order as he has found it far less judging of such displays, is momentary and cumulates into sharp humor and a steady hand during a mission. For all his nerves, childhood silence, and distrust of most of the people he works with: Regulus Black is made of steel underneath. He may have performance anxiety: but he will always deliver. It could be said that almost everything Regulus Black does is a deflection. A smile and a gentle hand is appropriate in one place, but in another he is just as likely to snap out a scathing reply or pull a wand. He can just as easily be cruel as kind—and all based on his own approximation of what is needed. He may throw up after doing what’s necessary—but when it comes time to deal out what is required, he will do so unflinchingly. Regulus also understands that sometimes cruelty is the best kindness life can afford a person. This is not to say that he is without vulnerabilities. Regulus is loyal to family to a fault. There is no way anyone could get him to murder them. Friends who are as good as family are also likely to benefit--he will look out for their interests as much as his own. Regulus' ideal would be for the entire family to get along for one glorious evening--he's just not naive enough to think its possible. He is also naive about the muggle world as well as some of the magical world. LGBT spaces and materials, slang--is often over his head. That was simply something Wilkes did. He never considered something he would be interested in because he was eventually going to have an arranged marriage. It simply was impossible. The same is true about Muggle Materials--he never would have guessed that he would spend a lot of time in muggle locals so he struggles to catch up with the concepts quickly--and still has issues. This naivety, along with some vulnerability about wishing to make friends or form close connections with people, is often readily apparent in his interactions with the Order--but his inherit distrust is likely to make the results somewhat less disastrous than they might otherwise be. |
History |
A history of your character. This shouldn't read like a grocery list. Rather, it should take into account how your take on this character's personality/history affected who he or she became. So, in a sense, this is your way of selling your interpretation. For example, some players argue that Sirius thought prejudice based on blood purity was wrong when he was younger while others say it was a result of being at Hogwarts that changed his opinion. These are the sort of points you want to hit on here. The Harry Potter wiki (http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Siri If you need suggestions, areas you can hit on include what sort of home/class your character comes from, how much exposure your character has had to the muggle world, mentions of parents and siblings and how they affected your character, the house your character was sorted into, the sort of friends your character made (or didn't make) and why, what clubs and affiliations they might have belonged to, hobbies, what sort of student they were, your character's occupation(s), how your became involved in the Order/DEs/ministry/stayed neutral, goals/ambitions, what caused them to go into the line of work they are now in, etc. Still need ideas? There's a list of 365 character questions here. CHILDHOOD: Regulus was the second son of Orion and Walburga Black. He was also a momma’s boy. As quiet child who hated disruption, being paired beside his far more exuberant brother was often nerve wrecking. He was eager to please by nature and so he ended up in his mother's company more often than not. This is not to say that Sirius didn’t have the power to bend his ear into mischief—but it was much more difficult as he absolutely abhorred getting into trouble. Since Regulus couldn't, or didn't want, to handle his parents loud rebuttals he ended up as a tattle-tale almost as often as he ended up in Sirius’ much more exuberant shadow. Despite the less than perfect family base, Regulus still had a childhood. He had many playmates through family member’s children and family friends. These resulted in both long friendships, as with Mars Mulciber, and deep dislikes as with a few distant relatives who always broke his crayons. Regulus is not above holding the crayon grudges to this day, either. Given the eventual break between Sirius and the rest of the Black family one would think that they had nothing in common or were, in fact, close during childhood. While it may be true that they were not the closest siblings it would be a folly to imagine Regulus did not look up to Sirius. Sirius was his brother—loud, brash, and far more everything than he was. While Regulus would have loved to see his brother settle down, just a little, he admired him greatly and likely did follow him around like a lost puppy. Like many other things, the desire for approval and support dictated much of Regulus’ childhood and nearly all of his interactions with family and friends. HOGWARTS: It was not Regulus desire for approval that placed him in Slytherin. He wasn't a brazen rebel like his brother, and though he was quite smart Ravenclaw just wouldn't have suited him. He also might have been soft hearted, but there was enough cunning to nurture to make Slytherin the obvious choice. This was where, even more so than childhood, that Regulus Black’s ball of nervous insecurity was most apparent. His brother was not in the house he should have been in and from there was stemming a glaring crack in his family’s home. This rift would grow throughout his Hogwarts years and even if Regulus wanted to stay close to his brother—it was impossible. It is in this way that Regulus Black fell in love with traditions. If someone in their family was going to have to uphold the traditions to the letter—Regulus could do that. His parents would approve and two out of three was probably about as good as he would ever get by way of family approval. He didn’t know how to approach Sirius here, so he didn’t—though he did ungracefully stalk him through the gossip that filtered through the halls. Despite being quiet, nervy, and all around awkward—Regulus was not completely unsociable. He made friends with some older kids—ones who wanted to use him, others who he could use, and the rare couple which he attributed a sort of surrogate brother relationship with. He ignored most of the drama and tried to keep his head down and mouth shut a good portion of the time. This resulted in a kid who knew his social circle perhaps too well—and could occasionally bite out a vicious line. Regulus Black in school might have been able to be pulled by the nose--but he could cut a person to the quick when they pressed him a little too closely on something he was not interested in discussing. POST-HOGWARTS:Regulus Black left Hogwarts and joined the Death Eaters. The changeover was swift and brutal and left him grasping for something, anything, to do with his time that kept him from being available at any day or hour. He chose Wand Making. While this may, at first, seem unusual--it was a respectable trade which allowed him to work with his hands without it calling into question his standing. Regulus loved it—and excelled in the carving if not in the core application. During his off time he was often with the Death Eaters. Like before, he was quiet and somewhat nervy—however it quickly became apparent that he was also efficient and would get things done if a job was pressed upon him. It was through that combination that in six months Regulus had killed three people—one including a young woman in a red dress for Mars which bothers him to this day. Despite having thrown up after every murder and every torture, it was only after the McKinnon wedding massacre, and his own trip to Romania, that Regulus felt that he truly needed to leave. His growing disillusionment had exploded into a sharp knowledge that if he stayed--he, too, was going to die. After charting out his possibilities, Regulus Black ran to leave before his nervous tension alerted anyone to his plans. He did not extract his bank accounts from his parents and he did not officially quit his apprenticeship: he simply contacted Sirius, begged for a meeting, and ran. Through the sharing of his package-boy errand with the Order Regulus somehow managed to joining and end up tagging along with the Order ever sense. It has been through many uncomfortable months and the motto What-Would-Sirius-Black-Do that Regulus attributes his longevity and his slowly formed friendships. |

FIVE THINGS: Five things you've always wanted to RP out/explore about this character but have never gotten the chance to do before, why you picked this character, things you're most looking forward to playing out with this character, etc. Try to include at least one plot idea for your character. Providing this information helps the mod and other players build plots around your character. • I would love Regulus to have a romantic relationship with someone. However, for my permanent characters I like them to happen organically and for Regulus in particular there are a few specifications. Regulus is still breaking down Pure Blood ideals and decorum. Therefore any romance (and I will agree to either gender, really, so long as it was done well) would likely have to avoid any and all need for Pure Blood Decorum. This means they either would have to not be Pure Blood or not inhabit any Pure Blood manners that Regulus could trace and go “Oh, this is how I should act”. This is also because following those rules when he no longer belongs, or feels he belongs, in that society would be painful for him. TL;DR Romance with him will not be easy but I would not mind it if it happens right. Talk to me. • Regulus is not a victim and I would like to continue to play and investigate the fact that he was a Death Eater. He does, and could still do, horrible things to people. I want to investigate the darker side of him. • Oh for a Sirius. I would love to invisigate this relationship—both with their shared history and their possible future. I would also like to see how it impacts said relationship when it becomes apparent that despite blood—Regulus still may trust a few Death Eaters more. Backstory and current story would be awesome. • Getting the Silly Out. Regulus has kept himself pretty tightly wound since forever. The Order is allowing him to be a bit silly, to show that he loves art and colors and not have him feel awkward or less capable because of that. I want to continue that as well as continue to find ways to have him make friends. • Regulus has a huge head by the time the Order gets into the US. It’s only growing bigger. I want it damaged if not popped. |
Samples |
Samples from previous games and for different characters are totally fine. Samples also do not have to be submitted again after you've already been accepted to the game. However, if you'd like to go ahead and write a journal entry, the game will be starting December 11th of 1978 (the Marauders have just left school that summer). While what happens during the characters' school years is canon, the events that follow are to be determined by players. Right now in the game all the events are falling into place for the main plot to begin with Regulus turning information over to the Order about the Horcruxes instead of being killed attempting to destroy the locket.
